I was born and raised in Chandler Oklahoma and come from a very long line of Lincoln County Dairy Farmers and golfers. I graduated from Chandler High School and attended the University of Oklahoma for two years before transferring to the University of Central Oklahoma where I received my Bachelor’s Degree in Early Childhood Education. I have two children, Jacki age 20 and Kyle age 18. In addition to my human children I have four dogs - Khal, Stormi, Mosby and Charlie. My hobbies include reading, listening to music/attending concerts, walking, yoga, watching my children play sports and binge watching my favorite TV shows. I currently live in Bethany, Oklahoma where I have resided for 18 years.
I have been in education for 27 years. I started my career in Oklahoma City Public Schools where I taught 1st Grade for 7 years at Hawthorne Elementary. After my daughter was born, I had to make the hard decision to leave my teaching position. I opened a series of daycare centers in the Bethany area and was the acting Director/Administrator for 18 years where we served ages 0-12, with an emphasis on our School-Age Programs. Once my children became older, I stepped away from the childcare industry and refocused my attention on returning to teaching in the public school system. I chose education because of my great interest in teaching the reading process to young children. I was very lucky in obtaining a 1st grade position right out of college as that is where the reading process really begins to take off and flourish. I was given the great opportunity to “team teach” during my time at Hawthorne Elementary. This position allowed me to be the primary reading teacher for all 1st Grade students at my school using the Saxon Phonics/Reading program. Needless to say, I have been passionate about this aspect of teaching ever since! My goal is to continue my education and work towards a Masters Degree in Reading for my own personal benefit and growth as a teacher of young children!
I love the flexibility that the virtual setting offers families, students and teachers. I feel that working remotely allows me much better time management in my daily life and truly makes me a happier, more productive employee/teacher. Instead of wasting time commuting or performing the traditional “duties” required in brick and mortar, my time can be utilized towards teaching my students and assisting them outside of the traditional brick and mortar time frame. Productivity is truly maximized in the virtual environment and this productivity benefits all parties involved. Virtual has provided me the opportunity to work with students and families from all over the state and I feel a true sense of accomplishment when I am able to help these families meet their individualized educational goals from the safety and comfort of their own homes! Getting to know and learning from the faculty, staff and administration at E-School has been a true blessing in my life and has made my experience as a virtual teacher truly enjoyable!
